Sleep > Restart > Shut Down > Log Out?
How often should you turn off your computer?
Is it better to shut down the computer or leave it in sleep mode?
You are NOT Being Hacked – You Must Log Out of ALL Open Windows and End ALL Open Sessions and Tabs
There are pretty much two types of people in the world: Those who shut their computers down every night, and those who close their laptops or just walk away from their computer without turning them off.
Most computers have three levels of low-power states when they’re not in use: sleeping, hibernating and shut down.
Shut Down – To shut down or power off a computer is to remove power from a computer’s main components in a controlled way. After a computer is shut down, main components such as CPUs, RAM modules and hard disk drives are powered down, although some internal components, such as an internal clock, may retain power.
Sleep Mode versus Hibernate
Sleep vs Shut Down – It takes longer for a computer to resume from hibernate than sleep, but hibernate uses much less power than sleep. A computer that’s hibernating uses about the same amount of power as a computer that’s shut down.
In sleep mode, your computer shuts down portions of itself but saves a snapshot of what you were doing so you can get right back to where you were.
Hibernate mode is similar but shuts more things off for a deeper sleep and less power.
The main difference you’d notice is the time it takes to boot back up.
Sleep mode will boot your computer back up within a few seconds of moving the mouse, but it might take a few minutes to come out of hibernation.
Shutting down means your computer is totally powered off and uses almost no power. But takes a long time to Boot back up and may update a few Apps before it fully comes back to life.
When the Computer Resets – It gives it a Fresh Start.
Log Out versus Sign Out
Log Out vs Sign Out – Sign out means: To record the departure of another or oneself by signing a register. So “logoff” and “logout” mean the exact thing when we log out of a computer system or web. “Sign off” or “sign out” is also the same in terms of the specific meaning of the end of the communication.
Most Log Out/Sign Outs are located in the upper right corner under the little head, your photo, your name or under a downward facing arrow in the upper right corner of your app, window, or login page.
Hover your mouse or tap your finger over that icon >
Click on the Log Out or Sign Out link to activate.
** When you are fully logged out > you will see the login screen where you enter in your email address/username and then your password. **
** If your window opens up directly to your account page or email inbox when you open the window – YOU ARE NOT LOGGED OUT **
** Most folks DO NOT Log Out **
When you don’t log out of all open windows or tabs > the session is still open and running and “hackers” can gain access to your accounts. Changing your password won’t help. Logging out Will!
